Iron Man

May 26, 2008

Warning: This post contains spoilers.

Iron Man is the most recent movie I watched. The Marvel comic book hero looks really cool in the movie with his flat faced helmet. But Iron Man creator, Stan Lee, should scold Tony Stark for revealing his identity in the end of the movie. That’s if he ever wanted to join the Who Wants to be a Superhero? contest.

Stan Lee could have said his disagreement to Iron Man’s revelation in no less than 15 adjectives in three sentences, not counting all of the cool words and stresses. But Lee is the creator so he will only say “Excelsior!” to Stark.

I’m only starting to like comic books and I’m not an expert but I believe Iron Man is the Marvel equivalent of DC’s Batman. Both of them doesn’t have supernatural abilities but both have the capability of funding a million dollar costume and accessories. I now conclude that to become superhero, you should either have supernatural abilities or supernatural bank account.

PSP Juiced 2 HIN – Underrated

May 23, 2008

I got my hands on the Juiced 2 game on the PSP. The game has been around since October last year. In my opinion, it is better than any NFS or any Midnight Club game on the same console. But game reviews say it sucks in other platforms. Thus, the PSP version becomes undervalued.

The game greatly focus on street racing particularly on drifting. But this is not the typical illegal street racing game. Juiced 2 brings modified car racing, along with the hot chicks, in a legal manner. The game brings the Hot Import Nights on the PSP. HIN produces big street racing events that even closed public roads to be used as a race track. And don’t forget about the hot women.

Racing games today are all about car modification. NFS and Midnight Club lets you do that. Juiced 2 is not far from them. It is the only racing game I know of so far that lets you modify vinyls’ size and position in the car’s body. However, it does not offer other changes in the car that includes lights, neon, plate number, decals, and tint, and it also has small quantity of body parts to choose from.

In terms of graphics and control, Juiced 2 is ahead of the NFS and Midnight Club. NFS Most Wanted controls so bad that I stopped playing it again on the PSP. Midnight Club got good controls but becomes unrealistic when you activate the NOS. Juiced 2 has greatly tuned cars and in-game driving makes you feel the weight of the car. Now, how can you do that on a hand-held console?

The view modes of the game is quite awful. Sometimes, the back of the car cannot be shown in the third person view. That’s not handy especially when you are drifting. The first person view, like other games, gives a look like the camera is above the car’s hood. You can’t see the hood, the dashboard, and the side mirrors. Maybe it’s not even called first person view. But I haven’t yet seen any racing game on the PSP that gives a realistic first person view.

If you would focus on the gameplay, I bet there will not be any problem in Juiced 2. Except only if you drift for more than a million points and then the car bumps on the wall. Makes you want to throw your PSP.

Red Alert 3: 7 Years in the Making

May 20, 2008

Welcome back, comrade

After 7 years, EA will soon publish the third installment of the game Command and Conquer: Red Alert. Beta-testing is open for buyers of the C&C: Kane’s Wrath until September 15, 2008. No official release dates yet but the beta-testing end date gives us a slight hint that the game may be released around that date or until the first months of 2009 (that’s only my assumption).

The game will also be available in Xbox 360 and PS3 gaming consoles. AT LEAST, IT WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE PC! Curse those HD systems that kill other consoles!

Anyway, I can remember playing Red Alert 2 with my friends at internet cafes when I was in grade school. Good old days. Imagine the military strategies of grade schoolers.

Nike Wins in Hamburg

May 18, 2008

While the championship match at Hamburg was still on going, I had a forecast of the game which I told to my mom and grandaunt (who were both avid fans of tennis) that in the end, Nike will be the winner.

Nike chose the best athletes. They got no. 1 and no. 2 best tennis players in the world. It is most likely that these two athletes, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, will meet in almost every championship matches. That is like more than an hour of Nike goodness on the sports television worldwide. Marketing at its finest.

Oh, I almost forgot. The King of Clay proved his authority once more. Nadal won the match 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.

Drugged Mouse

May 17, 2008

I’m wondering if my mouse is smoking something (note: computer hardware).

This morning, I woke up early because of.. er.. tummy ache. Nine o’clock may not be early but then if you slept at 3:00 am, that’s like dawn or something.

After I relieved the pain (HEHE), I can’t sleep again. So, I opened the computer and started surfing. And then my mouse started to act strangely. The scroll would be functional but the cursor wouldn’t move. I thought maybe there’s a faulty wire inside but after lunch, the mouse is fully functional again.

It’s either the mouse is drugged or it’s as sleepy as I am. But according to Angeal, use brings wear, tear and rust – a good explanation of what’s happening to my mouse. Overused.

The mouse is a good piece of hardware, by the way. An A4Tech MOP-28 (as shown in the image above). It’s good for laptop users since it only has 60cm of wire and a petite size.

Bob Ong Fans to Put up Their Own Book

May 15, 2008

People from Bobongpinoy Yahoo Group are planning to create their own book. Sort of a compilation of articles made by members.

Personally, I would want to write my own article to be published in that book. But the 500-800 word limit is like a Mount Everest for me. That might be as long as all the posts I’ve written in this blog put altogether. Also, talent would be my frostbite and the deadline is like an avalanche. Articles must be submitted until July 1.

Another burden would be the topics. Humor, love, sex, youth, family, politics, and education are the topics to choose from. Sex is removed from my choices – I’m still young to talk about that. And also politics because old people talk about that. I can’t think of anything to write about the youth because everything about the youth is just having fun. I’m not deep enough to write about family. Love? What am I going to write about love without being corny and cheesy? Writing humor would be hard because it comes out naturally – without the word count requirement and such. I want to write about education but it would surely end up being a badly written personal rant about why I hate my previous school. So, there’s no choice.

These people from the BP Yahoo Group are continuing to amaze and amuse me. They now have their book cover. Amazing people, indeed.

The only thing I’m worried is that the trend these days is that new artists or bands compile their own versions of the songs popularized by a specific group/artist into a revival album. Most of the time, the group they choose to revive songs from are uber great groups that are now defunct. I would say that Bob Ong is a great writer. Now, don’t tell me he is already defunct. =)

Most likely, I will just wait until their book is published and then grab a copy. I’m trying to refrain from doing one of my styles – If you can’t join them, mock them.

I will also lower my standards quite a bit. I know it would be hard for me to have my article published in that compilation. I would try for somewhere easier, say PDI’s Youngblood. HAHA!

That’s a bad joke.

Crisis Core: Aerith vs. Cissnei

May 13, 2008

Last time I met a friend of mine, we had a little debate about who’s more charming, Aerith or Cissnei? And now, I give you the tale of the tape:

AERITH

Aerith Gainsborough. Brown-almost-straight hair. Wears a red ribbon given by Zack. Isn’t she cute? (HAHA I’m getting biased)

She appeared on Crisis Core in the scene when Zack fell from the sky as Angeal charges the floor of a room in the MAKO reactor (I’m not really sure). Her first word was “Hell-loo?” But that’s not the normal hello you can get from any of your text friends. This Hello revives Zack from uh… sleep.

She also got an awesome music theme.

Her DMW skill is Healing Wave which will heal Zack around a thousand HP points. It helps Zack well especially in boss battles. The bad part of this skill is that if the game suddenly becomes GTA, she’d be called hooker.

CISSNEI

Simply Cissnei (no surname given). Red wavy hair. Usually wears the Turk uniform except on the cutscene that shows Zack’s vacation.

Cissnei is the first woman that appears in the DMW. She has a strong figure. When Zack first saw her, she’s being assaulted by several Genesis clones. Zack was about to help when two Turks stopped him and delayed him a little bit. Next thing Zack saw was the Genesis copies lying on the floor defeated by Cissnei.

On the DMW, she brings the skill Lucky Stars. This will give Zack a critical status. It is a good skill to be used for enemies with high HP.

According to a couple of SOLDIERs, she’s the hottest girl in Shin-Ra. But then again, who wants to settle with a chick with shuriken?

I’m in a Poster! Yey!

May 12, 2008

This is my first time to be included in a print ad. I was surprised because I was the one who usually create a mock print ad that features my friends and classmates.

So, I am in the poster of my previous school. I saw it earlier in the school’s booth at the local mall. Kind of ironic because I got into the poster at the time when I already left the school.

I can remember the time when we got our picture taken. Our section was in the computer laboratory when the photographers came in. Now, what I can’t remember is how I got into the computer table where our shot was taken. That’s not my usual place in the Computer Lab. Maybe that’s the time when we were having a TextTwist competition.

Anyhow, the shot is supposed to be a stolen-but-directed-shot. We were not supposed to look at the camera. Since we are good kids, we actually did not look at the camera. But, I cannot stop myself from smiling. It’s like an impulse when I know a camera is taking a picture of me.

Now, that makes me wonder. Do people inside the mascot costumes smile when somebody is taking their picture?

Mother’s Day

May 11, 2008

Today is Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to your mom and all the moms in the internet.

An inconvenient truth:

GTA IV got more search results than Mother’s day. “GTA IV” leads with 1.6 million results more than “mothers day.” Result came from Googlefight. Just beat it! HAHA
